Benefits of Health Fairs
Almost every practitioner sooner or later faces the challenge of increasing his or her patient base. There’s a core group that stays steadfast with you, but after that, you need more people to come in. There are multitudes of Internet platforms as well as old fashioned ads in movie theaters and direct mail and many more. Your budget and/or time may be limited, though. So what else is there? You can partake in health fairs.
The importance of being able to meet patients face-to-face can’t be overstated. It’s a time of first impressions… for both sides. As a vendor, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward each and every time you meet a new person. Show them your knowledge of whatever field that you’re in and demonstrate what makes you stand out from others. Be genuine – they will be able to tell if you’re just trying to generate leads instead of making a true connection. Eye contact is a very powerful form of communication and cannot be adequately substituted.
It’s so much more difficult to do that in a more impersonal setting, like online or on the telephone. While you can attempt to inject warmth and humor in either of those situations, the lack of true in person interaction can lead to misinterpretations – particularly of the other persons true impression of you and your message. It’s vastly much easier to make a connection in a setting like this – and make sure to treat each person the same, no matter how crowded the fair may be.
These health fairs also help you showcase something else – your attention to detail. As a medical professional, you’re expected to be an expert, of course. Anticipating what a potential patient might want or need that’s related to your own field can put you ahead of those who just offer a pen or refrigerator magnet. You can have those items too, but ensure that you have something, like a blood pressure screening, that can draw attention to your booth. If you’re a spa, have several masseurs and other staff so that they can do massages and other treatments. Think ahead and you’ll find that you’ll be rewarded.
The more interaction you can get with your potential patients, the better .Don’t just have them fill out forms or read literature about certain conditions. That can lead to short stays… and even less retention. You need to offer things… like a discount on teeth whitening or cavity checks if you’re a dentist or vision tests if you’re an eye doctor. There can be feet exams for podiatrists. Keep it basic enough so that they can come see you at your main office if you find something that needs to be followed up on. The employees will remember that you were the one who found the condition, after all.
